Stuart, its all going to happen when the iPhone is launched in Asia - you've seen firsthand how the accessory / repair / loading of software like music works in our "we-can-fix-anything" markets! Many companies turn a snubby proud nose saying "we don't want to play" there - those that understand it well and learn that they just are - are the ones with the bigger edge. More importantly, as a customer and user, i tend to trust my friendly computer guy or my local mobile repairer more than the 'company' to find solutions to my problems!!!

Thanks Gabe and Jon!

Jon, you are quite right about the Asus PC and the cost trade offs are very interesting. I'm going to write some more up on the PC and mobile world. I don't think the Asus model will cut it... The all in one mobile is going to win big in this regard.

I keep thinking something like the Asus Eee PC is another step towards a response to your points about small, powerful enough, inexpensive enough (approx. $300) ... quite small, quite light, solid state, comes in either Linux or windows version, and Asus just released a third party developers kits

Yahoo Messenger on the Mac...it blows chunks. Hangs and pauses. Yeah it works, but..this looks like the app I saw 18 months ago with Jeff B that never got released. Seems to me some people at Yahoo are releasing things so they have something on the post MSFT acquisition resume.

Very good points Stuart. And your speculation is fair. Fring is the most complete VoIP/IM mobile client available to date and this can make the difference.
