Almost Up and Running

I’ve just about complete my migration from MT to Wordpress. I still have some outstanding elements to solve. While I found how to import MT posts easy enough keeping the permalinks isn’t so easy. There’s some old links and documentation on the web although frankly they aren’t very good. Having imported the old posts I may may end up deleting them (as Google doesn’t like duplicates) and just keep the history with the old linked to URL’s. There are some redirects methods around, however they don’t give me confidence.

So now rebuilding the old blog pages to point to the new seems to make sense. The only place this approach falls down is in the archives list; which are now linked via a Google custom search in any case.

Overall it’s probably cleaner that way with a new opportunity to create topics, new tags etc. Don’t ever believe that moving from one system to another is either easy or foolproof. If you have lived on one platform for awhile then going to another is a real “break”. In the end I wouldn’t be doing it if I didn’t believe that Wordpress was simply better for my needs.
