Starwood Hotel Blogs

Just a few weeks ago I was writing about how a small hotel could create a hotel blog. Now the Starwood group comes up with something that looks a little slick to me. It is too controlled, too likely to delete reviews that aren’t exactly what they want (the benefit of reviews on travel sites). Until the hotel also tells stories or provides updates re menu today, events that are on, etc. it is hard to see how this will really benefit them.

Yet it is easy to create and duplicate for / by any small boutique hotel. As the owner make sure you provide a small card on leaving where the guest can find and sign your guestbook / review. An even better strategy for the hotel is to encourage the conversations and links from other blogs and sites to their own. It provides more cred, gets them more listings and a higher ranking in Google ultimately. Geotagging etc will make this all happen in short order.

Reason for the update? Twitter: Jeremiah: This is a GREAT looking consumer writing brand blog http://www.starwoodlobby.com/

I like the idea of hotel blogs; and I don’t think they require a lot of time. They can quickly link to local news and event, provide the updates on their own and provide that open space for comments and feedback. Plus recognize staff etc. Then everyone is aware that “info” on the experience is global.

Don’t you want to be the hub for your business and the conversation around it?
