I’m at eComm, I’ll be reporting some observations and comments. I’ve already met lots of familiar faces; its one of those conferences that is about relationships. There’s a good crowd a full room behind me.
First up is Jonathan Christensen from Skype. Not sure if it is his task or preference. He’s started by reviewing the history of VoIP. I suspect most of the audience would prefer to hear something exciting from Skype. Or prefer to look forward. We’re ready to stretch; what happens next where are the opportunities? Will he say something about mobile? etc. I see a brief slide of the next 10 years. Headlines “Freedom with Mobility”.
What I’d like to have seen is what David Isenberg is commenting on now. “How will Skype grow it’s business?” His first answer “Hmmmm”… David says tell us your secrets.. he says in some way we stalled. There is defocus. For him personally he comments that he is working on groundbreaking projects. Personally excited. Another question about can we “connect” to the Skype network. “Our API has been interesting but not in the realm of scalable applications like you are talking about. …. must not be detremental to the health of the network. A question on network outage. “I’m not involved in the core network, know they isolated the problem and confident that things will continue to scale. It was an interesting vulnerability. We have addressed those issues (paraphased).
