One has to start asking… how much reseach and understanding does Twitter really have of the Indian market for it is about to become their largest… or will withing a short period. So we can expect that in just over a month the other carriers will join Airtel on Twitter.

Breaking news today in India that AirTel will begin supporting TwitterSMS. That looks good and the cost is ok at 1 rupee. While Airtel talks 100m+ users the great majority aren't texters or tweeters- yet. I really don't get the "exclusive" aspect and in fact independent notification services like boxcar come close to duplicating this service although only on the iPhone over 3G. Still I know of nothing that is really in the way of Vodaphone matching Airtel on this score. Still it is not yet clear what the service "exactly is". I certainly wouldn't want SMS updates from everyone I follow. I'd go nuts in seconds.
I've also felt for a long time that India is the place for Twitter to launch location based tweets. The innovation opportunity just went up dramatically for all sorts of service based tweets.
