I'm surprised Om doesn't suggest Skype as a potential "skype" exit. Still the UI will need a lot of work before it is Skype quality. Almost looks like Skype should buy them and then go the iPhone app route with a proper development.

I'm waiting to see what the real impact of adding Skype is. It could be really useful. I'm still bothered by the "firends" integration. I sense all these services are going about it the wrong way.

This would just be the beginning of my list. Number 4 is crucial for security. I'd just like to see a forum held with developers and it might help if they spent more time actually encouraging the ecosystem.

Firstly, VoIP should use a rich signaling mechanism that extends all the way to the end device the user is using. This is critical because this will allow users to exchange meta information like purpose of the call, criticality of the call, authentication information of the far-end user and so on

Thanks to Andy for the list and Rich Tehrani for sharing it more broadly. It's nice to make a list like this although there must be at least a 100 out there that should make the draft.

Dave Michels writes a follow up to his PBX post. I agree the mobile is on the cusp of changing almost everything. The issue will be the carriers.
